PAGAN ALTAR
Formed in 1976 by Alan and Terry Jones, Pagan Altar plays heavy rock music
in it's most literal sense, and despite no label interest in the late 70's
and early 80's, the timelessness of their music ultimately prevailed as
minions of doom-obsessed metalheads kept Pagan Altar's music alive over two
and a half decades
Mid-first decade of the 21st century, the group had reformed to re-record an
album of material written, but never released during their original tenure
as a band. That album, Lords of Hypocrisy, has been met with an incredible
reception from fans of doom both old and new, this was followed by a third
full length, namely the Mythical and Magical album. Currently, Pagan Altar
is back on the road after over 20 years of silence, to play select gigs
worldwide to the bands loyal and ever increasing fanbase with new members
behind Alan and Terry to form the backbone of the bonecrunching Pagan Altar
live sound...Joining them on bass is Diccon Harper (Ex-Voice Of Destruction
& Dragonforce), Andy Green on drums, and Rich Walker on rhythm guitar (of
Solstice & Isen Torr)
Behind the Cloak, an exceedingly more detailed and painstaking account of
Pagan Altar history than this may be read at the bands' website. There you
may also find other information and order Pagan Altar merchandise.
DEVILMAKESTHREE
Established in Autumn 2002, when founding member Marty Robinson invited Paul
Duffy and Dave McCallum to jam on a few tracks he'd been working .. just one
practice, the guys knew they were onto something special and the trio locked
themselves in a practice room and perfected six songs. Three songs from
these demo recordings were then released -"Caution: Will Cause Neck Injury"
to worldwide critical acclaim.
To bring the Devilmakesthree experience to a live audience the band were
aided initially by Honey for Christ guitarist Andy Clarke until a full time
member was found in the man-mountain that is Gavin Coulter. Now with a
steady live line up and new material continuously being written, the band
focused on an active future.
With a second demo CD released - "Voice of the Undergound", the bands
writing showed a growth and maturity uncommon to bands so early in their
career. Again this was received to great acclaim throughout the local scene
and beyond, and coupled with the bands pro-active nature of gigs, promotion
and merchandising, the band were now known throughout the land. As
Devilmakesthree nailed their live show, they continued to demo new tracks,
some of which were available on download from their website. The quality of
these tracks have lead to the decision to record and release their first EP
independantly. Recording will begin in early August 2004 for the EP which is
to be tiltled "Vacuum Tube Rapture"
March 2005 Marty Robinson left the band to pursue other interests. While
leaving a void in the band, it has not stopped the devilmakesthree machine
turning. In the interim Steve Moore Of Condemned fame stepped up to the
plate learned a bunch of songs and hit the gigging circuit with the
remaining three members with Dave now on vocals and Gav on Backing vocals.
Fortunatley this turned to be positive move and the response from the metal
loving public has been overwhelming. Coming to the tail end of 2005 the guys
have retired to their respective caves to work on new music and intend to
come back with a new guitarist and more brutal material to torture people in
2006. You have been warned.2008 has rolled round and another shift in
personnel, the band parted company with Steve Hobson early 08 and now have
Jay Rogers ex Altus Astrum and current Vomitous drummer on board. The band
are now ready to record very soon and a release should be expected over the
coming months with plenty of live dates to accompany the release. |

- rocKD gigs to move in to the Limelight. |
As part of our continuing involvement in the
metal scene, and our dedication to both local bands and international
touring bands, as well as our desire to offer bands a better type of
Distortion Project show, we are pleased and proud to announce the following.
From the Saturday 2nd of May onwards,
all rocKD shows will take place in the
Limelight. This will allow us to do a number of things. Firstly,
there will be 3 bands every week, as opposed to two and there will be a new
(later) door time of 5.00pm. There
are plans afoot to knock through the Kitchen in the Limelight to create a
smoking area, and a place where people may set up stalls to sell their wares
- a kind of "metal-market" type thing similar to what you get at festivals.
(interested parties drop me a line about this). There are also plans to
extend the curtain where the small bar is, to make the venue smaller on less
busy days, so it wont feel as if the bands are playing to nobody in a big
empty hall.
I'm particularly pleased about this upgrade, as it will now give the bands
full use of the Limelight, a bigger stage and a better gig overall. The new
curfew is now 9pm All bands that I
have booked to play after May 2nd for a Saturday show will now be in The
Limelight.
May is the month of album launches it seems, so here is the full rundown for
that month.
Saturday May 2nd. A Little Bitter + Tapasia
+ Arcane. **A Little Bitter Album Launch.** Doors 5pm, £5.00
Saturday May 9th. Sinocence + Residual Effect + Rebels by Nature + Trucker

ONSLAUGHT
Onslaught was formed in 1982 by Nige Rockett (guitar) and Steve Grice
(drums). The band began life under the influence of the second generation of
hard-core punk bands like Discharge, G.B.H, & The Exploited and the more
metallic Motorhead. After 2 years of writing and hard gigging a deal was
secured with underground label 'Children of the Revolution Records' and the
band released its first album, 'POWER FROM HELL' in 1985.
The album was fervently received by the nascent thrash underground and
contained a number of tracks that were to grow to become considered as
thrash metal anthems, including the eponymous Onslaught (Power From Hell),
Angels of Death and Death Metal (itself the subject of some conjecture – was
this tune the first usage of the term ’Death Metal’ anywhere?)
In 1986, Onslaught with the addition of new vocalist Sy Keeler signed to the
mighty ’Music for Nations’ records and we saw the release of the highly
acclaimed ’THE FORCE’ album.. For many this is the definitive Onslaught
record, containing more thrash classics like ’Let There Be Death, Metal
Forces and Fight with the Beast’, the album received rave reviews across the
world and catapulted Onslaught in to the higher circles of thrash metal and
were seen by many as Europe’s hopefuls to end the American domination of the
metal scene.. Touring with Motorhead, a legendary appearance at the 1st
Dynamo Festival and shows with Anthrax and Nuclear Assault, simply added
more firepower to Onslaughts ever growing arsenal.
The huge success of ‘THE FORCE’ album saw a wealth of major labels chasing
Onslaughts signatures for the release of the 3rd album ‘In Search Of
Sanity’. The band eventually signed with ‘London records (Polygram)’ before
releasing ISOS in 1989, but this was not to be without controversy... Sy
Keeler was unceremoniously sacked by the record company and Steve Grimmett
was brought in as his replacement. The ISOS album is the bands biggest
selling release to date, containing blistering thrashers like ‘Lightning
War’ ‘Powerplay’ and the truly epic ‘Welcome To Dying’. But once again
internal problems reared their ugly head just as the band were tipped to
rise to even bigger things, Steve Grimmett quit the band after less than 1
year in the ranks and Onslaught would eventually split in 1990. Move on -
2005........
The Onslaught back catalogue is re-released worldwide and shows that there
is still a massive interest in the band, with a great deal of unfinished
business and a great sense of under achievement still haunting the guys here
was the opportunity to do something about it.
Nige Rockett / Steve Grice / Jim Hinder & Sy Keeler along with new guitarist
Al Jordan sign a deal with the prestigious 'Candlelight records' and set
about work on the 4th ‘Slaught album. With producer Andy Sneap (Megadeth/Arch
Enemy/Testament) at the helm, the beast that is KILLING PEACE was born... a
monstrous slab of pure, uncompromising Thrash Metal. New tracks such as Burn
- Killing Peace - Twisted Jesus - Shock & Awe, prove that Onslaught are back
in brutally devastating form...
The album was received to huge critical acclaim from the world’s metal press
and fans alike and once again the band was back in rapid ascendency...
Onslaught then took the album to the live stage with devastating effect,
huge performances at Sweden Rock / Up From the Ground / Bang Your Head
festivals to name just a few, have seen the band regain their reputation as
a formidable live act....Playing over 180 shows/festivals in all corners of
the globe, since returning.
But as always there are casualties to success, due to the ever growing
workload and promotional demands on the band following the release of KP,
first Jim Hinder & later Al Jordan were unable to commit 100% to Onslaught’s
future and reluctantly had to step down...
Enter Jeff Williams (Bass) & Andy Rosser-Davies (Guitar), two phenomenal
musicians, who have brought so much more to the Onslaught camp in terms of
talent / attitude and aggression. Since their arrival the band has grown
into a whole new machine, this has become clearly evident as writing for the
5th ‘Slaught album commences and can only promise a crushing time for the
band in years to come... WATCH THIS SPACE..!!!!!!!

THE ROTTED
Born out of the dingy London back streets, The Rotted have risen up and
established themselves as one of the UK's leading extreme metal acts. Though
proud to be spawned in the death and extreme metal scene, the boys'
influences aren't just the ones normally associated with the style of music
they create. The Rotted's take on the genre comes from a completely
different angle; It's not the genre or style, it's the attitude and
delivery. As fans of classic rock, hardcore, punk, death, thrash and black
metal, musical inspiration for 'Get Dead Or Die Trying' can be found in
pretty much any decent guitar-based band of the last 30 years. Get Dead or
Die Trying' a schizophrenic hybrid of extreme metal and punk hardcore
violence, riddled with a melancholic darkness and cynical humour that spits
in the face of life itself. On sale 30th June through Metal Blade Records!
MALEFICE
Formed in Reading, Berkshire in 2003, vocalist Dale Butler, guitarists Ben
Symons and Alex Vuskans, bassist Tom Hynes and drummer Craig Thomas went
about crafting the sound that would see Malefice cemented as Britain's
premiere heavy metal act.
Their monstrous debut album 'Entities' was a punishing, brutal assault to
the system. Crossing the boundaries of thrash, death and mathcore,
‘Entities’ specialized in the same power groove that saw Pantera and Lamb Of
God rise to legendary status in the field.
Arriving with nothing in the way of fancy haircuts, cheesy gimmicks or music
industry hype, Malefice are a band that captured the minds and banged the
heads of every metalhead that missed metal in its purest, most
uncompromising form; brutal, tuneful and heavy as hell.
After sharing the stage with some of the most esteemed names in modern metal
(Sepultura, DevilDriver and Morbid Angel to name but a few) and earning
universal praise for their festival-stealing slot at Download 2008, Malefice
have earned the reputation as one of Europe's elite metal talents and that
reputation is set to soar to all-new heights with their upcoming new album
on the illustrious Metal Blade label.
ANTERIOR
ANTERIOR WERE A TOTAL REVELATION. THE BAND'S HIGH SPEED GUITAR WORK AND
DUELLING LEADS WERE DELIVERED WITH SUCH PASSION AND VIRTUOSITY THAT MANY IN
ATTENDANCE JUST DIDN'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WHEN "GHOSTS OF DAWN" EXPLODED INTO
LIFE. THE REAL METALLERS QUICKLY SHOWED HOW IT IS ALL DONE AS THEY CREATED A
SEA OF SYNCHRONISED HEADBANGING. THE LEADS WERE FANTASTIC AND PERMEATED
THEIR SET CONTINUALLY AS "SERAPH" HAD MOST IN ATTENDANCE WATCHING IN
ABSOLUTE ADMIRATION.
(MANCHESTER MUSIC BOX, DYING FETUS TOUR JUNE 2008)
CONDEMNED
Traumatising GORE Metal Since their conception in 1993 Condemned have
continually pushed themselves in order to create the definitive sound that
they stand by today. The sound of traumatising gore metal. Since the release
of their first CD “Prelude” and their second “Somebody stop…” followed a
number of gigs overseas as well as high profile gigs including shows with
Napalm Death, Extreme Noise Terror, Desecration etc. Since that time a
number of disruptions hindered the release of their forthcoming Ep “…and
that’s how I found them” such as getting kicked out of one practice hall,
the burning down of another and of course the departure of the bass player
and rhythm guitarists. However with the addition of Michael Ardill the bass
role has once again been redefined within the Condemned line-up. Back from
the ashes Condemned decided to keep the band as a four piece and with that
in mind “…. And that’s how I found them” was recorded between February and
March 2005. With the new CD release Condemned are reassessing their plans
for world domination. See you soon.

Dublin Road, Belfast. Doors 9pm, £4.00
RESIDUAL EFFECT
Residual Effect was formed in Belfast/Dublin in June 2004. After several
months of jamming and gigging they recorded a 3-track EP, intent on
capturing the aggressive live sound for which they were becoming known. The
self titled EP, recorded in a one day session in Dublin, February 2005 was
well received amongst the metal fraternity, with positive reviews from
Rocksound, Zero Tolerance and several online zines. The band returned to the
studio in April 2006 to record "In a World Where Pain Is God" which showed
them developing technically and musically while maintaining the raw essence
of the first EP and their live shows. Residual Effect have built themselves
a reputation for being one of the best live acts in Ireland/UK, always
giving a blistering, energetic performance and have to date shared the stage
with Raging Speedhorn, American Head Charge, Panic Cell, Soulfly, Born From
Pain, Cephalic Carnage, Nevermore, Devil Driver, I Remain, RSJ, 10 Years,
Skinless, Visceral Bleeding.
SINOCENCE
On The Live Circuit - SINOCENCE are making one of the biggest noises in the
underground. With fans chanting their name in venues throughout Europe they
are a band that forge ahead of others for consistently touring. On their own
headlining tours, gig trades and most recently their record company’s tour –
Casket Lullabies. Plus supporting some of the heavyweights such as Machine
Head in Belfast on the ASHES tour – Wednesday 13 – Breed 77 – Therapy? Soil,
American Headcharge - W.A.S.P and more. In the battle of Britain, where 180
bands from all over the UK came head to head, Sinocence landed second place
in the finals judged by Kerrang, Peaceville Records, Terrorizor and
Bloodstock.
As a self Financed act, Sinocence have managed to lead a productive musical
life and achieve worldwide distribution with Casket/Co-Pro Records. The band
have garnered popularity in the underground, as well as whipping up a frenzy
on the internet. Within the last twelve months, Sinocence have undertaken
successful tours of the UK & Ireland, as well as playing their debut shows
on mainland Europe.
Being based in Northern Ireland, reaching any kind of musical status can be
an exhausting task. Undeterred, Sinocence have gone from stength to strength
with their collective drive, determination and cast iron will to succeed.
RAZOR SENTRY
We are Razor Sentry. We are the last soldier standing with one mission, to
be as heavy as possible. Our music is a combination of any style of metal as
long as its heavy as hell. We're currently working towards recording our
first CD and gigging as much as possible. We love to play live, we live off
playing a show in front of a great metal crowd. If you want music to

January. Doors 9pm, £5.00
OVEROTH
Overoth are a Death Metal Band hailing from the Belfast area of Northern
Ireland. They formed in late 2005 by four close friends with a raw passion
for Death Metal. They have been playing the Irish & UK scenes since the
release of their first demo and have only received great reception wherever
they’ve played.
Their first demo “Pathway to Demise”, although lacking professional
recording quality has received many great reviews........
SHADOWS FAR
Influenced by bands like The Haunted, Destruction and Coroner, Shadow's Far
is thrash metal dynamite with a riffing that sticks in your mind and easily
force you to bang your head!
RAZOR SENTRY
We are Razor Sentry. We are the last soldier standing with one mission, to
be as heavy as possible. There's no really big dramatic story as to how we
met up. Chris and Eamon found two guys to make a heavy band with in Stuarty
and Dave. Pete was last to join the band in our search for a second
guitarist and properly completed the line-up. And now for an irritating
metal band cliche... due to 'artistic differences' Dave is no longer in the
band, but all the best from all of us mate. We're currently finishing band
rehearsals with our new bassist Chay aka Jason Newsted, and will start
looking for gigs in the near future. We'll post gigs as and when we get them
and if you like it heavy come watch us. Due to unfortunate personal
circumstances Stuarty has had to leave the band. We'll miss your energy in
the band mate, hope we'll see you at our gigs so we can get trolleyed. All
the best mate.
CURSED SUN
Cursed Sun are a five piece metal band from Belfast. They formed in Nov 2007
through a mutual love of heavy metal and the goal to become an original
metal band. They teamed up to produce shredding riffs, thundering bass,
guitar melodies, pounding drums and resonant vocals, aiming to bring the
heavy metal scene to its darkest existence.
